In counseling it is important to understand your motivation to change and seek help. It is often the feelings associated with pain, worry, shame, guilt and frustration that lead somebody to seek help. You are the only one that can decide if you are experiecing enough discomfort to change your life. Jupiter Counseling offers you a solution. We meet you where you are, and develop treatment goals to best meet your individual needs.

There are two primary types of motivation that drive people to change. External motivators refer to things outside yourself that influence change and are based on what other people think. Fear of getting fired or impressing your partner are examples of external motivators. Internal motivators come from within and are not based on other people. Once you have made the decision that you want to change, you next have to find someone you can trust that can help provide healthy and constructive ways to meet the stresses of life.

Jupiter Counseling offers a variety of mental health counseling services. We offer Individual, Family, Substance Abuse and Group Counseling. We have offices in Jupiter and Stuart to better serve you. If you have any questions please feel free to call us at 561-575-2020

There is a strong connection between drug and alcohol addiction and psychiatric disorders. Studies have shown that over one third of Americans diagnosed with a mental illness have also had issues with their drug and alcohol use. More than 50% of chronic drug and alcohol abusers reported a serious psychiatric condition. Many individuals who suffer with mental health issues show signs of having an addictive personality. It can be difficult to tell where addiction ends and mental illness begins.

It is common that one condition tends to influence their path into the next condition. Often times a person will use drugs or alcohol to alleviate their symptoms related to depression and anxiety. there are a lot of theories about how these co-occurring conditions arise and how they can be treated. Some theorists believe that the use of the substances actually creates and causes the mental disorders. Many social scientists focus on factors such as family dynamics, poverty, life experiences and cultural influences that lead to psychiatric and addiction issues.

It is very important to receive a comprehensive assessment to determine what type of treatment would best assist you. If it’s determined that dual-diagnosis is assessed it is important that both conditions are treated simultaneously for the best outcome. There are many dual-diagnosis specialists that specialize in treating individuals that suffer from addiction as well as mental health and mood disorders.

Please feel free to contact us at 561-575-2020 if you have any questions

There are many options when it comes to receiving substance abuse treatment. typically the level of care is determined by the individuals needs, and more likely by financial and insurance restrictions. Inpatient facilities typically give you no free time and you live at their residence while in treatment. There is a tremendous amount of structure around your day and little free time to get into trouble. Many times clients will come to Florida looking for an escape from their lives. This can give the person the opportunity to create a new life, but often times does not prepare them for what is to come when they have to re-adapt to their environment. the average stay at an inpatient treatment facility is 30 days. We have found that many people are incapable of entering back into society without some type of step down program, such as IOP.

The Intensive Outpatient Program at Jupiter Counseling offers clinical, medical, emotional and peer support to improve your chance of success. Our program allows you to slowly integrate back into work and home life while providing the support you need to maintain sobriety. This experience is important in the step-down process of recovery. You can start rebuilding your life and establishing relationships while managing personal responsibilities.

Depression affects millions of Americans every year. While most Americans feel down from time to time, there are major differences between feeling down and clinical depression. There are the normal stressors of daily life including: financial difficulties, loss of loved ones and ending of relationships and self-esteem issues. These issues can make life seem unmanageable for short periods of time. But if you are experiencing these feelings for extended periods of time and cannot live a happy and useful life you may need to talk to someone about what’s going on.

Clinical depression is typically classified as into different types. Major depression is characterized by a constant state of hopelessness and everyday activities can seem impossible. Dysthymia, or mild chronic depression is less severe and typically occurs for a shorter period of time. Insomnia, restlessness and sadness are common and approximately 1.5% of Americans suffer from chronic depression. Manic-depression or bipolar disorder is typically characterized by major mood swings. the manic phases often have grandiose delusions, sleeplessness, paranoia and altered perceptions of reality and elation. This is off set by swings into major depression. These shifts can occur very quickly or over a period of time. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or winter depression affects individuals during the year and generally falls during the winter time, which is characterized by cloudy, cold days with low amounts of sun light.

Diagnosing and treating depression is a major step towards living a happy life. You can visit us at jupitercounseling.com to learn more about our programs and how they could help you.

While there are many medications that are used for the treatment of addiction, we at Jupiter Counseling believe that addiction cannot be treated in a vacuum. While medication can help in managing the withdrawl symptoms, it is also important to have a supportive program that can help facilitate the addicts’ transition back into daily life. The National Institute of Drug Abuse recommnds that treatment be tailored to the individual’s needs including: family, cultural, social, legal and medical.

We use cognitive behavioral therapy to help the client learn how to deal with triggers and stressors that come up in early recovery. Family therapy is also highly recommended due to the fact that addiction and alcoholism is a family disease, and it is important for the loved ones to take care of themselves, whether the addict gets well or not.

Because addiction is not created overnight it takes a lot of time and effort by the addict, the family and their support network to recover. It is important to mention that recovery is not a simple straight line, and is typically marked by periods of moving forward followed by periods of moving backwards.
